Shimna Training and Practice Development
I am Dorset based offering bespoke training across the South of England and potentially beyond. My contacts with both commissioning agencies and care staff highlights the existence of a training/knowledge gap between what staff and agencies are seeking and what is available.
With this in mind I offer an extended range of services and I am willing to engage further in order to tailor packages of training and practice development to meet the needs of specific organisations and their staff, offering variety, flexibility and good practice as standard, drawing on years of professional experience in psychotherapy, mental health, drug and alcohol treatment and Motivational Interviewing.
As an energetic and dynamic company Shimna offers commissioners and practitioners the ability and willingness to develop bespoke training or to adapt existing training packages to meet your needs and aims to provide professional, best practice training in model and tailored events ensuring flexibility, efficiency and cost effectiveness to the voluntary, community and statutory sectors.

- Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based clinical method for helping people change. It combines the client-centered counselling style of Carl Rogers with directive psychological methods to help clients increase motivation for change, resolve ambivalence, strengthen commitment, and carry through with behaviour change. Originally developed for helping people with alcohol/drug problems, MI is now being applied more widely in health care, criminal justice, rehabilitation and mental health settings. Specific adaptations of MI have also been developed for use in medical settings where patient contact time is more limited. I trained as a trainer in motivational interviewing with Professor William Miller and Dr. Steve Rollnick the architects of MI. I am a member of the International Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT).
