Psychotherapy at Shimna
What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapists are not just people who give you advice, and psychotherapy is not simple problem-solving. Therapy produces change in your life, but not primarily because of advice you get from the therapist.
In reality, therapy is a much richer experience. Psychotherapy is a specialized technique which is effective in helping you cope with a wide range of difficulties. It can produce lasting change in your life.
Psychotherapy at Shimna is based on the values and principles of the humanistic and integrative schools as well as being enlightened by psychodynamic approaches. Our core philosophy is contemporary gestalt which, is based on a range of principles, that for the purposes of therapy and relationships are best thought about as beliefs about people.
We believe : -
- that each person has the capacity for health, growth and creativity and that this potential is facilitated by the creation of a therapeutic healing relationship within which, human beings have the ability to regulate themselves optimally in their environment.
- that unfinished business and fixed patterns from the past can impair an individual's ability to be fully in contact with others and sustain a balanced body/mind system.
The foundation of psychotherapy at Shimna is the relationship you establish with the therapist.
Research has shown that the technique the therapist uses is not as important as the relationship you build. Gestalt therapists actively participate in the therapeutic process, sharing their own genuine responses and reactions in an appropriate and authentic way. Building an alliance of trust with the therapist leads to a reshaping of significant emotional experiences, and builds confidence and wholeness in new and enduring relationships.
